R.I.P. Jeep Cherokee....

....and thank God not me!

I promised I would update about my weekend at Disney so here it is! Unfortunately I had a slight delay driving from SLO to Anaheim on Friday morning.

I took the day off from work, went to my dentist appointment, dropped our dog off at the vet's to board her for the weekend and took off towards L.A. The weather has been so weird on the coast this weekend, it's been alternately cold and rainy and then a burst of sunshine. So, anyway I got almost to Santa Barbara (right before the Gaviota rest stop for you Californians) when it just started raining and I went around a curve too quickly and lost control of my jeep. It did a 180 across another lane of traffic and slammed my driver's side into a concrete divider. I WALKED AWAY WITHOUT A BRUISE OR EVEN A SCRATCH! It's a miracle, truely.

Well, all my family was in Anaheim, and since I wasn't hurt I continued on, rented a car, and had a great time the rest of the weekend. My husband gave me a big hug and called me a "real trooper" for not having hysterics. I'll take that as a compliment! :)

Highlights

Wow. It's been awhile since I posted! Ok.. my life is not too terribly exciting, but I'll run through the highlights for our friends and family that might still be checking up on us!

  • I'm still teaching kindergarten at a fine arts charter school in King City, but I was informed that I will be moving up to a first grade position next which is very exciting!
  • Patrick is loving flying for the jet charter company out of San Luis Obispo and he is also so excited to have his Pitts S2-B (small aerobatic plane... think Snoopy) back from Idaho! He spent the weekend in Chico giving instruction and thrill rides.
  • We've been getting to spend more time with Patrick's brother, Chris and his wife Nicole, since they moved to Carlsbad, CA to go to jewelry school. They'll only be here until August and then it's back to AR to work his parents store, but it's fun to have them a little closer for a little while. We're meeting them and some other L.A. family and family from Illinois next weekend at Disneyland! Yea!
  • We found a great church in SLO that we really love. It's called Calvary SLO and you can check out their site here.
  • Our dog, Macey, is still a big, adorable, pain in the butt! I got myself this for Easter because she ate my old one.... at least this one is cuter than the old one...

Ok... so that's basically it! I swear I'm going to update more often... starting with fun pics from Disney next week. :)

I See London, I See France

My friend Leah made me aware of personalizing your google page and the wiki "How To" articles.

I think Britney needs to read today's article. Of course, she wasn't actually wearing underwear... but the principle is still the same.

Life Soundtrack

If my life were a movie, this would be my soundtrack:

Opening Credits: Sing Mary Sing by Jennifer Knapp

First Day At School: What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts

Falling In Love: With Arms Wide Open by Creed

Fight Song: Mercies New by Nichole Nordeman

Breaking Up: The Ashtoken Farewell by Celtic Woman

Prom: I Worship You by Mercy Me

Life's OK: Come Fly with Me by Michael Buble

Mental Breakdown: Butterflies by Dave Barnes

Driving: Live by Nichole Nordeman

Alone: You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette

Flashback: Ellana's Song by Watermark

Getting Back Together: Hello by Evanescence

Wedding: Arise and Be Comforted by Watermark

Birth of Child: Gratitude by Nichole Nordeman

Final Battle: No More Chains by Nichole Nordeman

Death Scene: We've Come to Declare by Shane and Shane

Funeral Song: Still Holding Out for You by SheDaisy

End Credits: Orinoco Flow by Celtic Woman

I'm agreeing with my friend Leah who did this first: the shuffle feature on itunes isn't very shuffly. I mean I've got 500 songs on itunes and it gave me 5 Nichole Nordeman songs... oh well... still kinda fun.

Here's how you play. If you'd like to create your own soundtrack, follow these simple directions:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you’re cool.

Happy Chinese New Year!

We're celebrating Chinese New Year today at school... I'm not sure what the actual date is but I thought I'd post it anyway. Rats really disgust me...

You Were Born Under:

You are quick witted, charming, and bring luck to all who know you.A bit greedy, you tend to go after what you want - with success.Clever, you seek out knowledge... and eventually use what you know to your advantage. You are very loyal, and you treat your real friends like they are family.
You are most compatible with a Dragon or Monkey.

Booty Shakin'

Kids really do the funniest stuff.

First funny story from kindergarten: The school that I'm teaching at uses a curriculum by some folks called Houghton-Mifflin, and in this program, they call the alphabet, "alphafriends." Each alphafriend has a little song that goes with it. This week we are on the letter 'L' which is Larry Lion. His song is to the tune "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" just a little jazzier. Ok, ok... so you're wondering what's so funny about that?

The kids love to dance to these songs. Mostly dancing when you're five consists of hopping up and down and wiggling, and when I started the cd that's mostly the kind of dancing I saw. However...... one little girl was shakin' her stuff like a seasoned stripper. I mean, full on, butt out, arms up, booty dancin'. Wow.. I almost choked trying not to laugh.

Kindergarten Teacher, Extraodinaire!

I had a job interview on Friday for a kindergarten position at a charter school about an hour away. I thought I did terrible at the interview... I was tongue-tied and I felt like I repeated myself a dozen times.. but apparently I didn't do that terrible... or at least everyone else was worse because I GOT THE JOB!!

AND.. I start this morning. Yikes! The current teacher is switching jobs mid-year and they needed me to start right away. This is a huge blessing for us right now, and I'm very excited about it.

Well.. I'm off to work. :)
(Leaving before the sunrise because it's an hour away!)
